Fields label layout issue

The required indicator is not displayed inline with the label, and there is too much (and inconsistent) spacing between the labels and their fields.  This is with label positions set to “top”.

BTW, just out of curiosity...why would Formidable's CSS not override the theme's CSS by default?  I'm not really a CSS beast but I thought that styles closest to the element in the cascade always take precedent?

That one isn't CSS. WordPress adds HTML (<p> and <br/>) automatically, and some themes send it through this WP filter multiple times which add paragraphs and line breaks inside the form.
